Pianofest Program

This educational workshop style festival has been conceived by the Cowichan Valley Music Teachers Association to offer piano students of CVMTA members an opportunity to extend their music study by preparing and playing for an adjudicator and audience in a friendly, low-key atmosphere. Classes are kept small, and the emphasis is on encouragement and learning in a workshop setting. Pianofest will be held over 3 days, April 30, May 1 & 2, 2009. Registration Deadline is Saturday, March 28, 2009

The adjudicator is Alice Enns of UBC.

Information and Regulations for Classes

Students will receive a verbal adjudication and will work with the adjudicator at the keyboard. No performance marks will be given. Entry for students is to be made through their regular teacher only; students may not enter themselves.

Please note a change this year for adult registrations. Adults will choose the length of the entire time for playing and adjudication - with the extra fee reflecting the time allotted. Please register the adult students according to the time allotted, not their grade level.

Teachers should establish the grade level of students using the Royal Conservatory Syllabus as a guide. Unless otherwise stated, participants may choose their own pieces from any source, and a wide range of repertoire is encouraged. However, Pianofest reserves the right to reclassify any selection for class consistency.

Teachers are asked to submit, along with the payment of registration fees, a copy of any music which has not been graded by the Royal Conservatory, Conservatory Canada or Victoria Conservatory. In grading pieces, the RCM will be used as a guide. Where the same piece is graded differently by other syllabi, the current RCM syllabus prevails. When classifying pieces, the style of the piece takes precedence over composer dates. Memorization is expected.

Please bring a published copy of your music for the adjudicator. Photocopies may not be used. Make sure bar numbers are marked at the beginning of each line. If you don't have a published original copy, you will need a letter of permission from the publisher

Students are expected to perform in the class scheduled, and scheduling is final. Refunds will be given in the case of illness, on receipt of a doctor's certificate. Please note that the Pianofest organizers reserve the right to make the final decision on any questions and irregularities which may arise.
